Description
JOB DESCRIPTIONWCVB, the Hearst Television/ABC affiliate in Boston, has an opening for a Political and Local Newscast Producer who knows how to create meaningful and memorable content across multiple platforms. This producer will be charged with driving daily and long-term political coverage that includes local, state, and national topics and also will be assigned to produce key daily newscasts. The ideal candidate will have his/her/their finger on the pulse of the political conversation and know how to generate news-making interviews. Applicants must have creative vision, experience making decisions under pressure, and outstanding communication skills. Accuracy is priority one! This position will report to the Assistant News Director.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee WCVB's weekly political program, "On the Record," including generating relevant and provocative content, booking guests, and boothing live and recorded shows
- Develop and foster contacts with prominent elected officials, other political leaders, and their staffs
- Plan and produce big-picture political coverage, including live debates, political conventions, and election nights
- Select, research, and write content for live newscasts that become an "experience" for viewers
- Work with and guide reporters in story production and conversion to digital platforms
- Coordinate creative vision with a team of anchors, reporters, meteorologists, photographers, editors, and production staff
- Booth assigned newscasts, breaking news, and weather events
Requirements:
- Professional producing experience in a local or national newsroom setting
- Proven track record in winning the big story, owning breaking news, and building impactful production, especially related to communicating important weather information
- Outstanding writing and copy-editing skills
- Ability to coordinate several crews and responsibilities simultaneously
- Experience summarizing information into easy-to-understand components
- Creative presentation style and ability to showcase all resources and elements
- The highest journalistic integrity and ethical standards
- Must be available to work holidays and various shifts including nights, weekends, and overnights; schedule flexibility during breaking news is necessary
- Related military experience will be considered
