Job Summary:
The Public Affairs Specialist builds and maintains strong connections between Nebraska Public Media and key stakeholders, including government officials, academic leaders, community partners, and the public. This position reports to the Chief Strategy Officer and works closely with the General Manager and the Director of Communications & Engagement.
This role:
- Develops and manages communications between leadership and the Board of Directors.
- Leads board operations and engagement.
- Designs and implements public affairs and advocacy efforts, with emphasis on federal and state legislative outreach
- Advises leadership and promotes the station's mission, values and achievements to elected officials and community leaders to strengthen its role as a trusted public service in Nebraska.
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in communications, political science, public relations or a related field.
- Experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
- Three (3) years of experience in communications, public relations, political science or a related field.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex information clearly.
- Proven track record of developing and maintaining relationships with contacts at community, university, state and federal government levels.
- Ability to analyze and contextualize political trends at all levels of government.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively under pressure.
- Demonstrated success working effectively across many departments.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point.
- Proficiency with Allegiance or other CRM.
