The APAC CPR Leader is responsible for defining and executing the Credit & Political Risk strategy across the APAC region, delivering profitable growth while ensuring disciplined underwriting, strong governance, and an engaged, high-performing team.
The role holder will have full accountability for the APAC CPR business, including strategic planning, portfolio performance, and P&L outcomes. The role collaborates with the Global Product Leader and APAC executive on strategic planning, innovation, and sustainability initiatives to ensure alignment with Canopius' overall business objectives and underwriting standards.

Define and execute the CPR strategy for APAC, ensuring alignment with global objectives, underwriting appetite, and risk appetite framework.
Own and manage the APAC CPR P&L, driving sustainable and profitable growth.
Partner closely with the Global Product Leader and APAC executive on strategic planning, product development, innovation, and longer-term sustainability initiatives
Drive new business origination and portfolio expansion across APAC by identifying attractive growth opportunities, sectors, and geographies.
Develop and maintain strong, long-term relationships with brokers, clients, and key counterparties to support consistent deal flow.
Represent Canopius and the CPR business at industry events, client meetings, and market forums to enhance brand profile and influence.
Provide technical leadership and underwriting oversight across the APAC CPR portfolio, ensuring consistent and high-quality risk selection.
Champion underwriting standards in line with the agreed strategy and ensure adherence to delegated authorities, rules and guidelines.
Proactively monitor and manage the APAC risk portfolio, providing appropriate oversight for individual risk decisions and portfolio construction.
Maintain compliance with internal policies, delegated authority, and regional regulatory standards.
Lead, manage, and develop the APAC CPR underwriting team, fostering a collaborative, accountable, and high-performance culture.
Set clear objectives aligned to business strategy and assess team performance through regular reviews and feedback with targeted career development plans implemented.
Act as a role model for leadership behaviours, professionalism, and client-centricity.
Enhance operational efficiency and service standards across CPR and Canopius in APAC
Lead knowledge sharing and promote innovation within the team
And other ad hoc duties as required.
Qualifications
Skills and Experience
University degree ideally in Finance/Business or any related subject; or recognised financial qualification, such as the CFA, ACCA, or CIMA would be desirable;
Demonstrable track record in credit and political risk insurance with well-established broker and client relationships
Strong technical knowledge and skills in the class of business
Aware of and actively engaged with trends within the market and global economy
Excellent statistical/analytical skills utilised to interrogate and interpret data
Liaise with actuarial team to evaluate and improve internal pricing models that operate on a probability of default and loss given default basis
Strong analytical, numerical and commercial skills, with the ability to assess complex credit structures, country risk dynamics and political risk exposures.
Highly developed negotiation, stakeholder management and communication skills, with confidence engaging brokers, clients and internal stakeholders at senior levels.
Strong IT literacy, including use of underwriting systems, portfolio analytics, exposure monitoring tools and management information to support disciplined underwriting and risk oversight.
