The Registered Nurse (RN) focuses on safe and effective patient and family-centered care. Customer satisfaction and quality outcomes are prioritized by the RN. The RN assists in maintaining a financially stable unit. The RN promotes personal development with an emphasis on evidence-based practice and education. Supervision of licensed and non-licensed staff members is a responsibility of the RN. Utilizing the caring processes of the Kristin M. Swanson Model of Care is essential for the RN. The RN is responsible for assessing, developing, implementing, and evaluating the plan of care. Focus on patient and family comfort, education, and satisfaction is crucial. The RN applies educational and professional experiences in delivering quality care. Mentoring and precepting staff members is an expectation of the RN. Key Responsibilities: Performs assessments and reassessments per policy and procedure or as warranted by patient condition. Demonstrates the ability to make sound independent decisions. Initiates, prioritizes, and implements the plan of care and reviews and revises it as indicated. Collaborates with patients, families, and interdisciplinary services. Utilizes resources appropriately to support the needs of the organization, patient, and family. Monitors and documents responses to clinical interventions. Facilitates, coordinates, provides, and evaluates education specific to patient and family needs. Delegates tasks to licensed and non-licensed personnel. Functions as a mentor and preceptor. Encourages and facilitates teamwork. Identifies and communicates opportunities for improvement appropriately. Participates in quality, safety, and service process improvement efforts. Complies with regulatory standards. Participates in the Practice Governance model supervisor activities. Promotes collaboration within and between departments. Participates in the development and achievement of unit goals and performance improvement activities. Effectively utilizes communication systems. Promotes cost-effective care. Provides feedback to coworkers. Is aware of public policy and regulatory guidelines affecting the healthcare environment. Promotes a safe, clean, and secure hospital environment for all. Recognizes data from complex situations to determine priorities for care. Synthesizes assessment data into meaningful information prior to communication to others. Assesses and anticipates discharge needs of individual patients and families. Develops relationships with families that promote their ability to advocate for the patient and their own needs. Collaborates with patients and families to prepare or update the plan of care. Makes use of available multidisciplinary resources in planning care. Identifies and addresses cultural and ethnic issues in planning patient care. Demonstrates ability to prioritize tasks for patients with complex problems. Reads journals that contain studies or articles that may be applicable to practice. Brings ideas and questions to the staff for assessment of applicability.
